I moved up to Fort Worth from Houston just before the beginning of September and started work on the 1st. I quickly got acquainted with all of the staff here at All Saints' and really felt like I fit right in. The house I'm living in is one of the old rectories that is owned by the Church and is literally right across the street from the church building which is nice when I am a lay minister for the daily Eucharist at 7 am.
My duties here for the church are mostly centered around serving the youth, as a Sunday School teacher and as an adult resource for the EYC, and being a lay minister for both morning and evening prayer, as well as the previously mentioned daily Eucharist. It is only a matter of time before I start being either a chalice bearer or a sub-deacon. This almost daily focus on God in a corporate setting is one of the things I love about working here, and it reminds me of the time I have spent around the monastic community. I also participate in the weekly adult bible study on Wednesday nights which is currently going over the book of Acts. On top of all this I meet with two of the three priests on staff, once a week, to discuss basic theology (Mthr. Ware) and church history (Mthr. Barbarito). It is really interesting how the two books, written in completely different contexts, work so well together.
On Mondays, Wednesday mornings, and Fridays I work for one of the parishioners at his law firm as a runner and occasionally doing paralegal work. It is really strange for me because I have never imagined that I would ever work at a law firm. It is especially strange to drive to work in rush hour traffic for thirty minutes to get to work instead of riding my bike for five minutes like I have been for the past three years.
All in all, I love working here and I couldn't imagine a better opportunity for me at this point in my life. Lets see where this takes me!
